Periodontitis treatment

Dr Meredith Owen offers specialised periodontitis treatment in Newcastle, NSW from her modern Merewether Practice. Periodontitis, commonly referred to as gum disease, is an inflammatory oral disease that damages the soft tissue surrounding the tooth structure. Periodontal disease in its early stage is called gingivitis and is characterised by red, swollen and sometimes bleeding gums. When gingivitis has not been adequately treated, it can advance to periodontitis. When bacteria is left to grow under the gum line it can produce toxins that stimulate an inflammatory response where the tissues and bone supporting teeth break down

If periodontitis is left untreated then the bacteria can continue to cause destruction of the bone and tissues around the teeth which can lead to the teeth becoming loose or in some cases tooth loss.

If you are experiencing periodontitis, Dr Meredith Owen provides thorough assessment and tailored treatment options from her Newcastle, NSW practice.
