Gingival augmentation/ Recession coverage
Gingival recession is the shift of the gingival margin (the terminal edge of the gums that surround the teeth) causing the exposure of the tooth’s root surface. It is caused by a range of factors including periodontal disease, aggressive brushing and genetics. When root surfaces are exposed, patients can experience increased tooth sensitivity and increased risk of cavities alongside aesthetic challenges. Gingival augmentation/recession coverage procedures assist to restore gingival tissue and cover the exposed root surfaces of the teeth.
During the procedure, your own tissue or donated tissue is used to rebuild the receded gums using a grafting technique, helping to prevent further gum recession and bone loss. Gingival augmentation/recession coverage helps to reduce tooth sensitivity and improves dental aesthetics. If you are experiencing gingival recession, Dr Meredith Owen can help you improve your confidence and periodontal health from her Newcastle, NSW practice.
